Placements24 client, a leading technology company, seeks a remote Data Privacy Counsel to join its global legal team. This fully remote role allows you to work from anywhere with a strong focus on GDPR, POPIA, and other international data protection laws, coordinating with teams worldwide.

Admitted attorney with 6+ years of privacy experience is required. You will develop privacy policies, assess DPIAs/PIAs, manage breach responses, review processing agreements, and advise on product data use

About the Role

Our client is a leading technology company seeking a dedicated and experienced Remote Data Privacy Counsel to join their global legal team. This role is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing robust data privacy strategies, ensuring compliance with international data protection laws such as GDPR, POPIA, and others. This is a unique opportunity to shape the privacy framework of a cutting-edge organization and contribute to safeguarding sensitive user data in an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. As a remote-first role, you will collaborate extensively with international teams, leveraging digital tools to maintain seamless communication and workflow. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines globally.
• Advise on data protection implications of new products, services, and marketing initiatives.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
• Manage data breach response plans and coordinate investigations in collaboration with relevant departments.
• Provide training and awareness programs to employees on data privacy best practices.
• Liaise with data protection authorities and respond to inquiries from regulatory bodies.
• Review and advise on data processing agreements and third-party vendor contracts from a privacy perspective.
• Stay current with evolving data privacy laws and regulations worldwide and assess their impact on the company's operations.

Requirements

• Admitted attorney with at least 6 years of experience, with a significant focus on data privacy and protection law.
• In-depth knowledge of international data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, POPIA) and their practical application.
• Experience in conducting DPIAs and managing data breach incidents.
• Strong understanding of technology and software development lifecycles is advantageous.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, and deliver results in a remote setting.
• Experience with contract review and drafting, particularly concerning data processing addendums.
• Relevant certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPP/US are a plus.
