Job summary

Niche is seeking a Manager of Data Engineering to lead a 3–5 person data team and drive our modern data platform. You will mentor engineers, shape our data product roadmap, and partner with Analytics, Product, and Engineering to deliver impactful data solutions.

The role reports to the Head of Data Engineering and emphasizes engineering excellence, collaboration, and operational discipline across Python, SQL, Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, and Kafka.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering with 1–2 years of team leadership.
• Proven experience in mentoring data engineers.
• Deep knowledge of modern data platforms (Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, Airbyte, RudderStack, Kafka).
• Strong skills in Python and SQL with solid data modeling (3NF, dimensional, data vault).
• Experience delivering robust, observable, secure, and scalable data pipelines.
• Familiarity with Agile product delivery and cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong communication skills and a bias for clarity and action.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of 3–5 data/software engineers to execute on the data product roadmap.
• Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and observable data pipelines and warehouse layers.
• Drive sprint planning, estimations, standups, and retrospectives to improve delivery velocity.
• Collaborate with Analytics, Product, and Engineering to align data solutions with business priorities.
• Ensure operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and reliability of data systems.
• Implement and uphold CI/CD, testing, code reviews, and thorough documentation.
• Coach team members on execution, communication, and career growth.
• Identify bottlenecks and optimize data platform performance and cost.
