Job summary

GovCIO is hiring a Data Engineer to design and build enriched datasets using medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) in Databricks, sourcing data from the VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and other internal and external systems. The datasets you build will feed directly into Power BI semantic models used by stakeholders across the organization.

This is a fully remote position. You will work closely with clients to gather requirements, track work in JIRA, and deliver high-quality data

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of experience.
• Hands-on Databricks development using PySpark and SQL.
• Strong SQL skills with complex joins and performance tuning.
• Experience building Power BI semantic models.
• GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
• JIRA for work tracking and issue management.
• Excellent client communication and stakeholder collaboration.
• Understanding of medallion (bronze/silver/gold) data architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain enriched datasets following medallion architecture in Databricks.
• Develop, orchestrate, and monitor Databricks jobs and pipelines.
• Write efficient SQL to transform and model healthcare data.
• Prepare and optimize gold-layer datasets for Power BI semantic models.
• Manage code and version control through GitHub with standard branching.
• Log and track work items in JIRA and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Power BI developers and data scientists to meet reporting needs.
• Validate data quality and document data lineage and business rules.
