Job summary

GovCIO is hiring a Data Engineer to design and build enriched datasets using medallion architecture in Databricks, sourcing from the VA Corporate Data Warehouse and other systems. The datasets feed Power BI semantic models used by stakeholders across the organization.

The role is fully remote with emphasis on requirements gathering, data validation, and collaboration with clients, using GitHub for version control and JIRA for issue tracking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with strong data background.
• 12+ years of relevant experience or commensurate experience.
• Hands-on Databricks (PySpark/SQL) experience.
• Strong SQL skills and data modeling capabilities.
• Power BI experience to prepare semantic models.
• Version control with GitHub; project tracking with JIRA.
• Excellent client communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Understanding of medallion (bronze/silver/gold) data architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain enriched datasets in Databricks using medallion layers.
• Develop and orchestrate Databricks jobs and pipelines.
• Write complex SQL for data transformations and modeling.
• Prepare gold-layer data for Power BI semantic models.
• Manage code with GitHub and track work in JIRA.
• Engage with clients to gather requirements and validate outputs.
• Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance across pipelines.
• Collaborate with Power BI developers and data scientists.
