Job summary

HNL Lab Medicine in Allentown, PA seeks a Cytogenetics Laboratory Specialist who can perform tissue and body fluid analyses and support quality control programs. The role requires solid knowledge of cytogenetics techniques, matrix management, and ability to work independently or with team members.

Responsibilities include processing specimens, conducting FISH/CMA analyses when needed, training new staff, and participating in on-call rotations while ensuring compliance with SOPs and CLIA

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: BS in biological science or chemistry meeting CLIA 88 personnel requirements AND NAACLS cytogenetics program OR two years cytogenetics lab training with associate degree.
• Language ability: read, analyze, interpret journals; respond to inquiries from customers/regulatory agencies.
• Math ability: work with probability, statistics, geometry and trig; apply fractions, percentages, ratios.
• Reasoning ability: define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions; interpret complex instructions.
• Computer skills: Word, spreadsheets, e-mail, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

Responsibilities

• Identify, prepare and process tissue and body fluid specimens per SOPs.
• Perform analysis for FISH and CMA as needed.
• Prioritize work to respond to workload and STAT requests.
• Conduct quality control and performance improvement activities.
• Provide training of new employees and students.
• Participate in inventory management as needed.
• Support on-call demands and on-call rotations.
• Review and update current SOPs.
