Job summary

Axle seeks a Cybersecurity Research Assistant to support NIH rare disease research from a remote position within the United States. You will implement and monitor security controls across Kubernetes, Linux, databases, and model-serving environments, while helping develop AI tooling for cybersecurity tasks.

This hands-on, early-career role offers supervision from an AI technical lead and a senior systems administrator, with sponsored certifications and dedicated study time.

Qualifications

• One to three years of hands-on IT or sysadmin experience.
• Proficient with Linux command line and scripting (Bash, Python).
• Interest in security; pursuing Security+/Linux+/Kubernetes certs welcomed.
• Ability to follow procedures precisely and document steps clearly.
• Willingness to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Implement security controls across Kubernetes, Linux, DB, and model-serving environments.
• Develop monitoring, dashboards, log aggregation, and alert routing.
• Run and track vulnerability scans; ensure remediation plans are followed.
• Write automation for baselines using Ansible and Python.
• Contribute to secrets management, network policy, and RBAC work.
• Prepare evidence for security reviews and maintain documentation.
