Job summary

Axle is seeking a Cybersecurity Research Assistant to join our NIH-supporting team in a remote role within the United States. This early-career position focuses on implementing security controls across Kubernetes, Linux, databases, and model-serving environments, with mentorship from our AI tech lead and a lead systems administrator.

You will build monitoring, run vulnerability scans, automate hardening with Ansible and Python, and contribute to secrets management and access controls while

Qualifications

• One to three years of professional IT/ops experience with hands-on technical work.
• Proficient in Linux command line, log reading, and tracing permissions issues.
• Bash and Python scripting experience showing automation work.
• Demonstrated interest in security and ongoing certifications or home labs.
• Ability to follow procedures and document steps carefully.

Responsibilities

• Implement security controls across Kubernetes, Linux, DB, and model-serving environments.
• Build monitoring coverage with dashboards, logs, and alert routing.
• Run vulnerability scanning and track findings to closure.
• Develop and maintain hardening baselines with Ansible and Python.
• Contribute to secrets management, network policy, and access control work.
• Prepare material for security reviews and CT/continuous monitoring reports.
