Job summary

Mind Computing is seeking a full-time, 100% remote Cybersecurity Engineer (System Steward) to support a VA project by identifying and mitigating cybersecurity risks and maintaining a strong information system security posture.

The ideal candidate will contribute expertise in ATO, NIST RMF, security controls, cloud security, and GRC, and will coordinate with system admins, developers, and ISSOs to address authorization gaps across the RMF lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a cybersecurity related field.
• 5+ years of information security experience, including 3+ years in cybersecurity and cloud security for a large government agency.
• Strong experience with RMF, ATO, security authorization and continuous monitoring.
• Experience developing RMF artifacts, implementing controls and managing POA&M.
• Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53, GRC, and federal cybersecurity policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide cybersecurity consulting and technical support for ATO, security authorization, and RMF activities.
• Support RMF Steps 1–7: categorization, control implementation, assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring.
• Lead and coordinate security and privacy activities within project teams and RMF artifacts.
• Develop and maintain security documentation such as Incident Response, Contingency Planning, Disaster Recovery, and POA&M.
• Assess risks, identify gaps, and coordinate remediation with stakeholders.
• Conduct risk analyses, gap assessments, and residual risk evaluations.
• Assess IT products and configurations for compliance with NIST SP 800-53 and policies.
• Develop and implement security controls and remediate findings.
• Support infrastructure security for deployments and configurations.
• Prepare and present security reports and risk assessments to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with admins, developers, owners, ISSOs, and customers on security impact of changes.
• Take on additional duties to support project success.
