Openkrill is seeking a Data Engineer to own the data layer behind credit risk decisions. You will ensure data quality and availability for underwriting and renewals, owning every data point from vendor returns to model use.

You will define data needs for each source, write data contracts, monitor freshness and schema, and maintain the Snowflake warehouse. This role emphasizes reproducibility, governance, and close collaboration with data science and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in data engineering or analytics engineering with ownership of a production data platform.
• Expert SQL and strong data modeling, including dimension models and time-based snapshots.
• Hands-on with a cloud data warehouse, ideally Snowflake.
• Experience with transformation frameworks (dbt) and CI/CD practices.
• Python for pipelines and automation; data quality testing and alerting.
• Experience with an orchestration tool (Airflow, Dagster or Prefect).

Responsibilities

• Own the Credit Risk data layer across Snowflake: raw, staging, mart, and feature tables.
• Define data needs for each source, grain, freshness, and landing location.
• Write data contracts with vendor integrations covering fields, types, null rules, and volumes.
• Monitor freshness, fill rate, volume, and schema for all sources and models.
• Triage data incidents, root-cause fixes, and track to closure.
• Build and maintain pipelines behind application, loan, performance, and vendor data.
• Maintain reproducible modeling datasets and prevent leakage.
• Write automated tests for keys, duplicates, ranges, and referential integrity.
• Maintain data documentation and lineage; keep owner registry up to date.
• Support vendor oversight by reconciling pull counts with invoices.
