Job summary

Kiwi Financial Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer to own the data layer behind credit risk decisions. You will manage every data point from vendor inputs to model ingestion, ensuring freshness, accuracy, and reproducibility across the Snowflake warehouse.

You will define data contracts, monitor quality, and triage incidents while collaborating with data scientists, engineers, and product teams. This is a fully remote role supporting international teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, owning a production data platform.
• Expert SQL and strong data modeling skills, including dimensional models and point-in-time snapshots.
• Hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse, ideally Snowflake.
• Experience with a transformation framework such as dbt, using version control, code review, and CI.
• Python for pipelines, tests, and automation.
• Track record of building data quality tests and alerting using dbt tests, Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, Elementary, or similar checks.
• Experience with an orchestration tool such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
• Ownership mindset: identify problems, root cause, and drive fixes to closure.
• Clear written communication: write data contracts, incident notes, or table documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own the inventory of every credit data source, including TransUnion, Clarity, Plaid, Prism, and internal data.
• Define for each source data needs, grain, freshness, and landing location.
• Write data contracts with engineers covering fields, types, nulls, and volumes.
• Ensure raw vendor responses are stored completely for model development and audits.
• Monitor freshness, volume, fill rate, and schema for all sources and models.
• Set up alerts for feature fill rate drops, missing fields, or volume deviations.
• Track input drift for production models with data scientists.
• Triage data incidents and drive fixes to closure.
• Own the Credit Risk layer of Snowflake including raw, staging, mart, and feature tables.
• Build and maintain pipelines and transformations for application, loan, performance, and vendor data.
• Maintain reproducible modeling datasets to avoid leakage in training sets.
• Maintain dashboards and governed metrics tables behind Credit Risk.
• Write automated tests for keys, duplicates, ranges, referential integrity, and source reconciliation.
• Maintain data lineage and owner registry for vendors, models, and inputs.
• Support vendor oversight by checking SLAs and reconciling pull counts against invoices.
