Job summary

Bowhead is seeking a Crash Simulation Engineer (NHTSA) to support a Washington D.C.-based contract. The role is fully remote.

The engineer will develop, evaluate and apply finite element and lumped parameter models in vehicle crash safety research. This position requires knowledge of vehicle design, crash safety countermeasures, laboratory measurement techniques, sled modeling and test devices such as crash test dummies and human body models.

Qualifications

• MS in engineering (mechanical or related) and relevant research experience.
• Experience evaluating lab test results from impact testing (vehicles/components/dummies).
• Experience running vehicle crash simulations using LS-DYNA (2+ years).
• Experience with post-crash injury analysis metrics (HIC, Nij, BrIC, etc.).
• Familiarity with FMVSS and design of experiments/DOE.
• Experience with LS-OPT and design of experiments.
• Familiarity with ANSA, META, and Oasys Primer.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, coordinate and control project work to meet client objectives.
• Lead technical efforts and stay current with industry practices.
• Create sled FE models, position crash test dummies and human FE models; perform vehicle impacts and injury analysis.
• Perform post-simulation data analysis and injury metrics per FMVSS/NCAP.
• Provide recommendations to client on planning, analysis and reporting.
• Develop technical reports and presentations communicating complex research clearly.
