Job summary

Bowhead is seeking a Crash Simulation Engineer to support the NHTSA contract headquartered in Washington D.C. The position will be fully remote. The engineer will develop, evaluate, and apply finite element and lumped parameter models for crash safety and human injury research.

Requires knowledge of vehicle design, crash countermeasures, sled modeling, and test devices. The role calls for technical leadership and direction on projects.

Qualifications

• MS in engineering (mechanical engineering preferred).
• Expertise in engineering dynamics, materials and mechanical/biomechanical/structural engineering.
• Experience evaluating lab test results from impact tests.
• Experience running vehicle crash simulations using LS-DYNA (2+ years).
• Post-crash injury analysis (HIC, Nij, BrIC, etc.).
• DOE, optimization and statistical analysis knowledge.
• FMVSS familiarity; LS-OPT and modeling tools (ANSA, META, Oasys Primer).
• Clear written/verbal communication; publications or presentations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, coordinate and control project work to meet client objectives.
• Lead technical efforts and stay current with industry best practices.
• Create sled FE models, position crash dummies and human FE models, run vehicle impacts.
• Perform post-simulation injury analysis and FMVSS/NCAP alignment.
• Provide recommendations on planning, analysis and reporting to the client.
• Develop technical reports and presentations communicating complex research.
