Job summary

GFiber, an Alphabet company, is seeking a Network Engineering Manager to lead the Core & Optical Transport team from a remote location. You will guide the backbone's reliability, capacity planning, observability, and automation while supervising a small team of network engineers.

You will own backbone design across IP and optical layers, drive telemetry pipelines, plan metro and long‑haul optical transport, and align priorities with broader infrastructure goals.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building large‑scale infrastructure or networks.
• 3+ years in technical people‑management.
• ISP/carrier backbone experience across multi‑vendor platforms (Juniper, Nokia, Cisco).
• Optical transport expertise in DWDM metro and long‑haul networks.
• Software engineering skills applied to network automation (GO and/or Python).
• Experience with modern network observability and telemetry pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee backbone design, reliability, traffic engineering and capacity planning across IP and optical layers.
• Drive observability strategy and telemetry pipelines (SNMP, gNMI/Streaming Telemetry, IPFIX).
• Plan and engineer metro and long‑haul optical transport, capacity growth and DWDM modernization.
• Set and communicate team priorities aligned with organizational goals.
• Develop long‑term technical goals and roadmap for infrastructure needs.
