Valmont Industries is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and support industrial automation for advanced manufacturing. You will contribute to PLC/ HMI/SCADA systems, robotics, and networking across projects from concept to commissioning.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and efficiency, with opportunities to mentor others and advance technical depth in PLCs, motion control, and IIoT initiatives. Some travel is required.

Qualifications

• B.S or A.S in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related Technology Field
• 3-5 years of controls engineering in industrial automation projects
• Hands-on PLC programming experience (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
• Experience supporting HMI/SCADA systems
• Understanding of industrial networks, motion control, robotics, and vision systems
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent for electrical design
• Familiarity with safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 62061, ANSI/RIA) and machine safeguarding
• Exposure to Industry 4.0/IIoT platforms and data solutions
• Structured programming knowledge (Python, C#, SQL) for IT/OT integration
• Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills
• Ability to lead high-visibility projects with global impact
• Experience in steel fabrication, welding, forming, cutting, and assembly
• Background in heavy manufacturing or large capital equipment

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and support PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for manufacturing equipment
• Participate in capital projects including laser cutting, robotic welding, and automated fabrication
• Develop control logic, IO configs, HMI screens, and documentation per engineering standards
• Support testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and start‑up activities at sites
• Assist with electrical schematics and controls documentation using AutoCAD Electrical
• Apply safety standards and risk assessments in projects
• Support compliance with NFPA 79, OSHA, ISO, IEC under guidance
• Assist with FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ validation as required
• Program and troubleshoot motion control systems and industrial networks
• Support robotics (Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA, Panasonic) and vision systems
• Participate in Industry 4.0 / IIoT data collection initiatives
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated automation solutions
• Mentor and knowledge-share as experience grows
