Job summary

Designed Conveyor Systems is seeking a Controls Commissioning Engineer to lead on-site commissioning of automated material handling systems from remote locations across the continental United States. You will travel to customer sites during commissioning, startup, testing, and go-live phases to ensure systems meet design specs.

You will work with controls, mechanical, software, and project teams to validate functionality, trains customer staff, and support deployment of cutting-edge warehouse

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 1+ years of experience commissioning industrial automation or material handling systems.
• Familiarity with PLC platforms such as Allen‑Bradley or Siemens.
• Experience with sensors, encoders, actuators, and safety devices.
• Understanding of Ethernet/IP and other industrial protocols.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Strong troubleshooting and deadline-driven problem solving.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Execute on-site commissioning of automated material handling systems.
• Perform I/O checkout, safety checks and device validation.
• Configure, test, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, and industrial networks.
• Validate system functionality against design specs and requirements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve issues and optimize performance.
• Support system integration testing and throughput validation.
• Document commissioning results, punch lists, and test reports.
• Train customer operations and maintenance teams on system functionality.
• Provide on-site support during go-live and commissioning phases.
