Job summary

Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP) is seeking a Communications Director to shape strategy for digital, print, and public relations, ensuring BLMP is the primary information source for its diverse network. You will lead a communications team and collaborate with staff, consultants, and partners on strategic initiatives.

The role is full-time and exempt, with occasional travel and flexible remote work. A decade of nonprofit communications experience and a deep commitment to Black migrant

Qualifications

• Experience: 10+ years in nonprofit communications, in-house leadership preferred.
• Strategy to Execution: translate knowledge into effective messages across channels.
• Skills: excellent written and verbal communication; build organizational voice.
• Leadership Style: collaborative, mission-driven, and receptive to feedback.
• Organization: manage multiple deadline-driven initiatives concurrently.
• Availability: able to work nights and weekends during urgent moments.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: supervise Communications Team and lead department meetings.
• Strategic Planning: develop and evaluate comprehensive plans for diverse audiences.
• Content & Narrative Strategy: guide strategy with other staff to support Black liberation and movement narratives.
• Digital & Web Presence: oversee site updates and regular posting of stories and events.
• Collateral Management: manage newsletters, brochures, annual reports, and website content.
• Brand & Media Relations: strengthen BLMP brand and manage media contacts.
• Rapid Response: develop crisis communication protocols.
• Movement Building: represent BLMP in movement spaces and coalitions.
