Job summary

The Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP) is hiring a Director of Communications to lead strategy, messaging, and public relations across digital and print channels. You will guide a communications team, align efforts with abolitionist and migrant justice aims, and ensure BLMP remains the primary source of information for its diverse networks.

Reporting to the Co-Director, you will shape content, manage media relations and budget, and drive rapid response during urgent moments, building power

Qualifications

• 10+ years in nonprofit communications leadership.
• In-house leadership experience preferred.
• Translate knowledge into engaging messages for diverse audiences.
• Ability to lead across multiple channels and teams.
• Strong organizational skills and deadline management.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends for urgent responses.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: supervise Communications Team and lead department meetings.
• Strategic Planning: develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive communications plans across audiences.
• Content & Narrative Strategy: guide content strategy and narrative for Black liberation and migrant justice.
• Digital & Web Presence: oversee website updates and information flow with the strategy team.
• Collateral Management: manage newsletters, reports, brochures, and site content.
• Brand & Media Relations: strengthen BLMP brand and media lists, oversee budget.
• Rapid Response: develop crisis communication protocols.
• Movement Building: represent BLMP in external coalitions and narrative spaces.
