Job summary

Scholars Strategy Network is seeking a Communications Associate to lead media efforts for its Ideas for America initiative and to support SSN's broader communications program.

The role focuses on developing media strategies, coordinating with researchers, and cultivating journalist relationships to elevate policy ideas during the election cycle. The position is grant-funded, salaried, with remote-first or hybrid options and based in the US.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years in communications, journalism, PR, or similar positions.
• Excellent writing and editing; able to translate complex ideas for broad audiences.
• Experience working with researchers or academics is a plus.
• Familiar with engaging a range of journalists (print, TV, radio, podcasts).
• Experience crafting op-eds and Letters to the Editor pitches.
• Interest in US domestic policy and politics.
• Highly organized and able to multitask across projects.
• Proficient with MS Office, Google Docs, Dropbox, Salesforce, Zoom, and content databases.
• Committed to SSN’s mission and its federated network structure.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom media strategy plans for the Ideas for America program and collaborators.
• Identify timely media opportunities at national and state levels.
• Build relationships with reporters and editors to secure earned media.
• Coach scholars on media engagement and prepare them for interviews and media opportunities.
• Market the Ideas for America program through events and press outreach.
