Job summary

New American Leaders is seeking a Communications Specialist to keep our digital presence active, inform supporters, and center our stories. This role blends content creation, digital campaigning, and storytelling for both NAL (501(c)(3)) and NALAF (501(c)(4)).

It suits an early- to mid-career communicator comfortable with social posts, emails, interviews, and rapid-response moments. You will work with teams to produce content that engages our community, raises visibility, and supports

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of professional communications, digital content, journalism, or related experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with adaptable voice.
  • Experience building a content calendar, social media plan, or messaging calendar.
  • Hands-on experience managing organizational social media accounts (Twitter/X, Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.).
  • Familiarity with mass email platforms and email design (e.g. Mailchimp).
  • Familiarity with social media monitoring tools (Hootsuite, Keyhole, or similar).
  • Understanding of 501(c)(3) vs 501(c)(4) communications implications for messaging.
  • Ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging content for a general audience.
  • Strong project management instincts and ability to juggle deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation, Graphic Design & Digital Media: maintain a pre-planned content calendar and publish across channels.
  • Draft and publish content across digital media channels and create short-form video content.
  • Create rapid-response content tied to current events and trends; monitor platform performance.
  • Develop timely, creative ideas for digital campaigns and assets.
  • Serve as a brand steward ensuring visual and voice consistency.
  • Manage a searchable archive of assets and assist with media outreach.
  • Draft and place op-eds and maintain relationships with reporters.
  • Email, Web & Fundraising Support: draft and send mass emails/newsletters and campaigns.
  • Support CRM, website updates, and performance analysis to refine strategy.
  • Storytelling, Events & Engagement: gather stories from staff and partners; assist events.
