Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team, delivering high-quality building systems commissioning from planning through turnover, with emphasis on mechanical and HVAC systems, controls, and operational readiness.

The role combines hands-on field work with thorough documentation and client-facing communication, under the guidance of senior commissioning professionals on projects across education, healthcare, commercial, and science and technology

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in commissioning, HVAC systems design, or building automation design.
• ABET program preferred for engineering degree.
• Basic understanding of controls/BAS sequences and field operation.
• Ability to read construction documents and translate into test procedures.
• Strong communication and teamwork; safety and quality focus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute commissioning activities for assigned projects under supervision.
• Develop and implement commissioning plans, schedules, checklists, and test forms.
• Develop functional performance tests for HVAC and mechanical systems.
• Coordinate with PMs, design teams, contractors, TAB agencies, and controls vendors.
• Witness system start-up, perform point-to-point verification, and document results.
