Job summary

First American is seeking a title examiner to join our Agency Division. You will examine titles, determine the chain of title, and prepare initial title commitments for a mix of commercial and residential orders.

You will abstract and analyze records such as leases, liens and easements, resolve gaps or conflicting information, and perform underwriting interpretation within guidelines. Remote options are available.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of related experience.
• State license(s) if required.
• Detail / quality orientation.
• Analytical review skills.

• Strong problem solving skills.
• Communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Customer service orientation.
• Proficient with company operating systems.
• Knowledge of legal terms helpful.

Responsibilities

• Performs title examination and examines chain of title for a wide range of orders, primarily commercial/residential.
• Abstracts and analyzes records, such as leases, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plot and map books. Determines ownership and legal restrictions to verify legal description of property and completeness of records that may cross county lines.
• Resolves missing information, incomplete, inaccurate or contradictory information contained in the title documentation.
• Prepares initial title commitment documentation based on the application of procedural guidelines.
• Prepares and reviews reports for accuracy.
• May provide underwriting interpretation within established guidelines.
• Other duties as assigned.
