Job summary

Escape Velocity is seeking a Principal Combat Designer to lead the creation and refinement of combat systems for our online multiplayer titles. You will shape weaponry, abilities, and overall player experience across diverse characters.

You will collaborate with design leadership, engineers, and artists to ensure mechanics are crafted with clarity and balance, while maintaining a player-first focus and ongoing iteration.

Qualifications

• Experience designing combat systems for games.
• Strong understanding of player experience and balance.
• Ability to communicate across disciplines (art, engineering, design).
• Proven problem-solving and creative thinking in game design.
• Excellent communication skills and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Design Director and leads to drive combat design vision for online multiplayer.
• Design and craft expert-level player combat mechanics, weapons and abilities.
• Coordinate with leads from art and engineering to align on mechanics before development.
• Advocate for the player and prioritize player experience in design decisions.
