Stantec seeks an experienced, hands-on ColdFusion developer for ongoing maintenance, backlog delivery, and documentation. This independent, part-time, hourly role focuses on legacy ColdFusion apps supporting environmental review, permitting, data management, and regulatory reporting.

The candidate should thrive in a flexible, independent setup, bridging hands-on coding with technical writing, and quickly understanding legacy CF code they did not originally develop.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on ColdFusion/CFML development experience, including CFCs and Application.cfc.
• Experience maintaining legacy ColdFusion applications developed by others.
• Strong SQL skills and database troubleshooting.
• Experience with version control systems (SVN and/or Git).
• Ability to write clear technical documentation in addition to coding.
• Comfortable working independently on an as-needed, hourly basis.
• Based in the United States with periodic remote coordination during Pacific hours.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve defects across ColdFusion applications, including search, pages, and reporting issues.
• Diagnose document retrieval and authentication/role-based access issues.
• Implement prioritized enhancements from the governed backlog.
• Reproduce, fix, and validate changes in development/test environments; prepare client releases.
• Document root causes and recurring patterns in CF architectures.
• Assist in backlog categorization: defects, debt, enhancements, security findings.
• Populate and maintain backlog details in Jira for client prioritization.
• Note dependencies and risks between tickets based on codebase knowledge.
• Update system docs and data flows to reflect current behavior.
• Contribute to training materials and knowledge transfer sessions.
