Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) seeks a Cloud Application Engineer to support NIAID. You will modernize the hosting platform across AWS and Windows, using Terraform, GitHub Actions, and IaC patterns.

The role emphasizes reliable, scalable services, TLS management, and automated给部署 pipelines. You will work with application owners to plan projects, migrate workloads to AWS, and implement observability with dashboards and SLAs.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or equivalent with 6–8 years of related experience, incl. 3+ years hands‑on AWS.
• 3+ years hands‑on AWS experience across IAM, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Route 53, CloudTrail.
• Demonstrated experience authoring Terraform from scratch — modules, remote state, lifecycle management.
• 5+ years hands‑on with Windows Server 2019/2022/2025 and IIS, incl. .NET workloads.
• Strong experience administering SQL Server (2017–2025) and RDS for SQL Server.
• Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or AWS CodeBuild.
• Scripting experience with PowerShell, plus Python or Bash.
• Observability practices with Datadog or CloudWatch; metrics, logs, traces, alerting.
• TLS/SSL certificate management for IIS/Tomcat/Apache/nginx; AWS ACM.
• Ability to obtain/maintain NIH Public Trust clearance.
• Clear presentation of ideas to technical and non‑technical users.

Responsibilities

• Deploying, hardening, and troubleshooting Windows apps on Windows Server and IIS, incl. .NET workloads.
• Administering SQL Server databases on‑prem and RDS; migrations, tuning, backups.
• Defining AWS infrastructure as code using Terraform; modules and state management.
• Building deployment pipelines in GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild.
• Fronting apps with AWS load balancers and WAF; health checks and rules.
• Instrumenting the platform with dashboards, SLAs, and alerts.
• Migrating Windows apps from on‑prem to AWS and refactoring architecture.
• Collaborating with owners/engineers to plan and implement projects.
• Automating routine ops into self‑service capabilities; cert renewal, credential rotation.
• Monitoring health and responding to alerts; documenting processes.
• Occasional after-hours/weekend maintenance for outages.
