Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology seeks a TS/SCI Cloud Engineer to support our intelligence customer in Springfield, VA. You will join a capable development team, automate deployments, optimize performance, and integrate with enterprise authentication services in a dynamic AWS environment.

Responsibilities include building secure, scalable infrastructure, writing unit tests, mentoring junior developers, and delivering full-stack applications in a PaaS setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field and 8+ years IT experience.
• Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II requirements (Security+ CE, CND, SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, CySA+, or CCNA).

Responsibilities

• Maintain security requirements for operation of systems.
• Build and optimize infrastructure (autoscaling, new services, cost efficiencies, authentication, search).
• Produce detailed documentation of systems and changes.
• Maintain AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, Load Balancer, RDS).
• Automate and optimize deployments of services.
• Deliver full-stack web applications to production and resolve operational issues.
• Engage in requirements gathering meetings with customers.
• Contribute to design and implementation of application features with minimal oversight.
• Refactor legacy code for reliability and maintainability.
• Mentor junior developers and enforce code quality practices.
• Write and read unit tests and perform code-quality analysis.
• Develop applications with JavaScript/TypeScript and related tech.
• Understand RDB concepts and relational database design.

HOW A CLOUD ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Cloud Engineer will be responsible for working with highly functional development team automating service deployments; optimizing system performance; integrating with enterprise authentication services; establishing/improving system monitoring; maintaining established security protocols; provide customers technical support. The Cloud Engineer will be integrated with an agile environment participating with scrums and other meetings.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with A&A Team to maintain security requirements for operation of systems
• Maintain and improve existing infrastructure (build out autoscaling, support new services, optimize for cost efficiencies/authentication/search, etc)
• Produce detailed documentation
• Maintain System in AWS environment using EC2, S3, Load Balancer, and RDS
• Automate and optimize service deployments
• Delivering a full-stack web application to production; identifying and resolving operational issues in same
• Actively participating in technical requirements-gathering process (i.e. meetings with customers)
• Executing design and implementation of application features, independently / unassisted, with minimal oversight
• Refactoring legacy application code for improved reliability and maintainability
• Mentoring junior developers
• Writing and reading unit tests; understanding code-quality analysis concepts
• Writing and debugging Javascript, Typescript, or closely-related language
• Developing applications backed by a relational database; understanding RDB design concepts

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Programming, Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience
• 8+ years IT experience
• Meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II requirements including one of the following: Security+ CE, CND, SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, CySA+, or CCNA

Required Skills:

• Strong knowledge of Amazon Web Services
• Strong Troubleshooting skills
• Experience in automating tasks using scripted languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or Perl
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology
• Familiarity with DevOps development processes and Continuous Integration tools: GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus
• Extensive Typescript or Javascript background
• Angular frontend framework; UI/UX design
• Microservice-based backend architecture; integrating with COTS/FOSS software REST APIs
• Supporting a full-stack application in a PaaS environment
• CI/CD pipeline implementation, ideally with GitLab
• Creating and deploying containerized applications, ideally with Docker
• Designing/implementing container orchestration with Kubernetes

Desired Skills:

• Strong understanding of cloud APIs and interaction with the AWS/CLI
• Experience working with one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, or Java)
• Experience with Go programming language
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Markdown, and portal development
• Database experience with a Postgres backend
• Strong communication skills

Desired Certifications:

• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
