Buildertrend is seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer, AI Platform to shape the cloud foundation enabling AI agents to support real customer workflows while safeguarding data and controlling costs. You will own critical platform architecture, set standards for engineering teams, and guide decisions to scale AI across products, ensuring secure, reliable, and sustainable operations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years architecting enterprise-grade GCP environments.
• Experience at a B2B SaaS company.
• Strong infrastructure as code practice.
• Hands-on production AI/ML workloads experience.
• Depth in workload identity and machine-to-machine authorization.
• Track record owning production incidents and deployments under pressure.
• Experience with agent development frameworks and runtimes.
• Governance with automated secrets rotation and policy as code.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain infrastructure behind production AI agents.
• Lead decisions on GCP networking, private connectivity, and service perimeters.
• Develop Terraform modules and CI/CD pipelines for safe deployments.
• Establish centralized path for LLM access including routing and observability.
• Document platform decisions with total cost of ownership and trade-offs.
• Serve as technical counterpart to cloud and AI providers.
• Take incident command during critical production issues and communicate risks to leadership.
• Implement safeguards for credentials, secrets, and AI usage.
• Lead blameless postmortems and drive improvements in security and resilience.
• Apply AI as a tool while owning quality of final work.
