Job summary

Eliassen Group is seeking an Application Cloud Engineer to maintain and enhance AWS-based applications and infrastructure. This remote contract role collaborates across development, operations, and security teams to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable systems.

The candidate will participate in on-call rotations, support 24/7 production operations, and work in a W2 environment with benefits. US citizenship or permanent residency with active Public Trust is required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years IT experience with BS/BA or 6+ years with MS/MA or 12+ years with HS diploma
• Hands-on AWS experience with cloud deployment strategies
• Familiarity with image registries such as ECR and CI/CD pipelines for containers
• Proficiency with Python, Bash, YAML/JSON, Node.js, and Lambda functions
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and Kubernetes
• AWS certifications such as AWS DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect Associate

Responsibilities

• Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform
• Manage Amazon EKS including cluster provisioning, upgrades, and node groups
• Configure EKS networking with VPC CNI, security groups for pods, and ALB/NLB ingress controllers
• Administer Kubernetes objects: deployments, services, configmaps, secrets, RBAC
• Monitor and troubleshoot production systems with CloudWatch
• Containerize and deploy applications using ECS and Lambda
• Deploy across dev, staging, and prod environments for consistency
• Monitor deployments and system health using CloudWatch and other tools
• Troubleshoot deployment issues and improve pipeline performance
• Perform daily health checks using AWS CLI or Lambda scripts
• Collaborate with development and DevOps for stateless, fault-tolerant apps
• Improve ECS scalability, performance, and observability
• Improve container orchestration with auto-scaling and rolling deployments
• Support feature branch testing and artifact promotion workflows
• Enforce pipeline security and automated code scanning
• Remediate OS/container vulnerabilities
• Orchestrate failover and restoration of ECS/EKS services and databases
• Test and document regional failover playbooks
• Meet RTO and RPO requirements
• Diagnose and resolve production issues across cloud services and CI/CD pipelines
• Follow incident response playbooks and communications
• Automate operational tasks to reduce on-call fatigue
• Log incidents and changes in tracking systems
