Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced Coding Education Lead for the Enterprise Revenue Cycle to drive proactive coding education and onboarding across Physicians and APPs. You will ensure accurate documentation, oversee reviews, and coordinate with internal teams on complex issues such as NCCI bundling and edits.

You will monitor Epic work queues, collaborate with CMOs and Clinical Informatics to improve documentation practices, and refine tools to enhance efficiency.

Qualifications

• RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC certifications required; AHIMA/AAPC credentials preferred.
• 4 years of expert-level professional coding experience.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD, CPT, HCPCS guidelines for compliant coding.
• Experience with Epic and coding systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver proactive coding education via newsletters, scorecards, and presentations covering CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, risk adjustment, payer requirements, and denials.
• Lead onboarding and compliance training for Physicians/APPs, locums, residents, and students, ensuring start-to-finish documentation accuracy.
• Provide individualized feedback by reviewing clinician records and performing spot checks; escalate non-coding issues.
• Serve as primary coding inquiries contact; coordinate with teams to resolve complex issues like NCCI bundling and high-complexity edits.
• Monitor Epic work queues to ensure timely and accurate charge submissions and reduce denials.
• Collaborate across CMOs, Clinical Informatics, Risk Adjustment, Population Health to improve docs and system use.
• Participate in specialty and department meetings; identify trends and deliver targeted education to improve coding accuracy.
• Refine Epic docs tools (templates, orders, diagnosis lists, SmartPhrases) to boost efficiency and accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, AHIMA standards; maintain knowledge of evolving policies.
• Promote ethical coding and continuous improvement; support clinicians with updates and education to ensure proper reimbursement.
