Summary
  • Candidates residing in the following states will be considered for remote employment: Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. Remote work will not be permitted from any other state at this time.
  • Expected to be proficient in assigning ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes for services such as outpatient complex surgeries, observations (non-obstetric), interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and non-complex inpatient coding encounters. Clinic coders should be proficient in coding for all non-surgery specialty areas, primary care, or complex surgeries.
  • This position works under the guidance and supervision of the HIM Outpatient APC and Clinic Coding Manager and is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Duties
  • Codes procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10-CM and CPT classification systems, following official coding guidelines, CMS standards, and Mosaic compliance standards.
  • Participates in professional development activities such as workshops, conferences, and in-services, maintaining appropriate records.
  • Communicates with providers to query for documentation clarity and specificity.
  • May assist in training newly hired coders.
  • Collaborates with Patient Financial Services to verify and modify charges and coding for accuracy based on documentation, payer rules, and coding standards.
  • Prepares reports for cleanup, auditing, edits, and denials.
  • Ensures data accuracy of State HIDI data by responding to edits received.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Requires coding education, high school diploma, and knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and Physiology.
  • Must obtain CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCSP, and COC certifications within 180 days of employment.
  • Five years of experience in a Health Information Services department performing detailed work and familiarity with patient medical records preferred.
