Auto-Owners Insurance in Lansing, MI, seeks a motivated claims trainee to join our team. This role handles entry-level insurance claims under close supervision through the life-cycle of a claim, including investigation, evaluation, and resolution.

After initial in-person training, you could have flexible work-from-home time defined by the leadership team. The position offers a structured training program and a path to an adjuster license where required by statute.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with property/casualty claims handling.
• Strong data organization and multi-tasking abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to write clear reports and correspondence.
• Ability to resolve complex issues while maintaining confidentiality.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to apply mathematical reasoning to financial documents.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry-level insurance claims.
• Study policies, endorsements, and forms to build knowledge of products.
• Learn and comply with claim handling procedures.
• Develop skills in claim negotiation and settlement.
• Serve agents, insureds, and others effectively.
• Meet with claimants, legal counsel, and third parties as needed.
• Develop specialized skills including estimating and using computer programs for loss adjustment.
• Study and maintain an adjuster’s license as required by law.
