Job summary

OpenTrain AI seeks a PhD-level chemist to design realistic chemistry problems and assess AI outputs, drawing on wet-lab or simulation expertise. This remote role lets you work around your existing commitments while contributing to cutting-edge AI tooling.

You will document methods, critique AI configurations, and help shape the next generation of chemistry AI systems. Flexible, fully remote contract work with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, computational chemistry, chemical biology, materials science or related discipline.
• Hands-on wet-lab research or extensive simulation-based work with deep knowledge in at least one area (organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, materials or cheminformatics).
• Professional written and spoken English at C1 level or higher; proficient in Python or scientific tools (Gaussian, ORCA, Psi4, GROMACS, LAMMPS or RDKit).

Responsibilities

• Design realistic chemistry problems and workflows across experimental and computational chemistry.
• Evaluate AI outputs involving reaction mechanisms and synthesis plans.
• Document scientifically sound methods and best practices for chemistry analysis and software.
• Critique errors in simulation settings and software configurations, then recommend improvements.
