Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) based at the National Center, with Home-Based options in the United States. This role provides direction to physicians, scientists, and allied health volunteers to develop scientific statements, guidelines, and educational programs.

You will collaborate with staff to review content, communicate current science, and guide volunteer activities.

Qualifications

• Superior writing & communication skills with a publication history in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.

Responsibilities

• Guide and partner with science volunteers (clinicians, researchers, and scientists) in the creation of scientific statements, advisories, guidelines, conference programming, and mentoring experiences.
• Provide consultation and approval on science aspects to internal staff for public and professional programs, publications, and marketing materials with health implications.
• Review content for Association professional websites and products.
• Synthesize and explain current state of science to lay professionals and internal staff.
