Job summary

Aegis Healthcare is seeking a Billing Specialist to handle home health and hospice billing across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers. You will own billing queues, ensure timely submissions, and resolve denials while collaborating with intake, QA, clinical ops, coding, IT, and finance.

You will post and reconcile payments, monitor aging, and provide leadership with regular revenue metrics. The role requires strong organization, accuracy, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• At least three years of hands-on home health or hospice billing and revenue cycle experience.
• Working knowledge of Medicare Part A, Medicaid, managed care or commercial payer billing and notices.
• Proven ability to resolve complex payer issues and document root causes.
• Proficiency with EHR, clearinghouse, Medicare billing portal, and PHI handling.
• Strong organization, accuracy, and professional communication.

Responsibilities

• Own assigned home health and hospice billing queues from eligibility review through final claim and payment.
• Prepare, submit, and track Medicare notices (NOAs, NOEs, NOTRs) and monitor acceptance and errors.
• Submit initial, interim, final, adjustment, and corrected Home Health and Hospice claims with correct dates, codes, units, and authorizations.
• Apply payer rules, state program requirements, contracts, and internal policies; track payer changes.
• Check for required billing elements and route deficiencies to the responsible team; do not alter clinical documentation.
• Monitor submission/acceptance status and escalate missing or late items.
• Investigate rejections/denials and document causes and actions.
• Coordinate documentation requests and audits with cross-functional teams.
• Post and reconcile payments; investigate unapplied cash and account discrepancies.
• Follow up A/R by aging; maintain clear notes and flag urgent risks.
• Provide regular billing metrics and collaborate with intake, QA, IT, finance.
• Work with cross-functional teams to resolve handoff problems.
