Job summary

Compute Solutions seeks an experienced backend engineer to own features end-to-end, from spec to production. You will work on VPS, cloud, storage, and bare metal services, with a focus on reliable, data-driven backend systems in a remote, distributed team.

You will be hands-on with Perl and PostgreSQL, design scalable APIs, write tests, and participate in on-call incidents while mentoring peers and coordinating across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
• 5+ years of experience with Perl.
• 5+ years of experience with PostgreSQL or a similar relational database.
• Strong backend architecture, APIs, and data-driven systems.
• Experience building, testing, deploying, and supporting production software.
• Strong SQL skills and relational data modeling.
• Experience writing automated tests and validating production changes.
• Clear written communication in a remote, distributed team.
• On-call rotation and incident response experience.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools.

Responsibilities

• Own backend features end to end within Compute Solutions.
• Design and develop reliable backend services and integrations.
• Work with relational databases and data models.
• Translate requirements into clear technical specifications.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools daily.
• Verify changes with evidence through tests.
• Review code and provide actionable feedback.
• Work safely in legacy or unfamiliar codebases.
• Own what you run and participate in on-call rotation.
• Mentor other engineers and coordinate dependencies across teams.
