Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and scale Cache Services (Redis and Valkey) as part of the Online Storage platform. You will own migrations end-to-end, automate provisioning, and ensure reliable operation in production while collaborating with product, design and analytics teams across a remote-friendly Canadian environment.

The role emphasizes distributed systems, backend development with Python or Kotlin, and infrastructure automation using Terraform and Kubernetes,

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineer experience.
• Design, build and launch backend systems; proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems; AWS, MySQL, Redis/Valkey, Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Production experience with Redis/Valkey in-memory stores; understand replication and cluster modes.
• Automate infrastructure with Terraform, Kubernetes and Python; prefer tested playbooks.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale Cache Services on Redis and Valkey, managing end‑to‑end cluster migrations.
• Productionize cache clusters with capacity planning, failover, upgrades, and phased rollouts.
• Replace manual cache requests with automated, self‑service workflows.
• Operate production fleet: define SLOs, alerting for hot keys, memory pressure and lag.
• Collaborate with client teams on caching strategy and roadmap data.
• Break down large projects into tasks and deliver in multiple phases.
• Support product lifecycle with PM, design & analytics in ideation and decision-making.
• Maintain metrics and on‑call readiness to keep systems healthy.
• Contribute to team community and interview process.
