Self Financial, based in Austin, TX, is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to own services powering its mobile app and web experiences. You will operate independently, make architectural tradeoffs, and mentor junior engineers in a fast-paced environment.

You'll build backend APIs, ensure scalability, and partner with Product, Design, and QA to ship user‑focused improvements. Strong Python and REST API skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Python background and web fundamentals.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs and client-server design.
• Experience with Git and code reviews in teams.
• Mentoring or technical leadership experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs in Python.
• Develop scalable REST endpoints for web and mobile clients.
• Work with PostgreSQL/MySQL to model data and optimize queries.
• Integrate with payment processors, bureaus, messaging, and analytics.
• Write clean, tested, secure, and maintainable code.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Frontend, QA, and managers.
