Job summary

Deep Reef, a Colorado-based fish and coral shop, seeks a Backend Software Developer to power its platforms. You’ll design and maintain APIs and data services using Node.js/TypeScript or Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, and AWS, focusing on reliability, performance, and clean interfaces for e-commerce and content workloads.

You'll collaborate with frontend, data, and DevOps teams to ship secure, scalable systems, model data, implement RBAC, and ensure observability through tests, logs, and traces.

Qualifications

• 3+ years building backend systems with Node.js/TypeScript, Go, or Python.
• Strong knowledge of API design (REST/GraphQL), versioning, and documentation.
• Proficiency with SQL and caching (PostgreSQL and Redis).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Familiarity with message queues and event-driven systems (SQS, Kafka, EventBridge).
• Docker, CI/CD, and Git-based workflows.
• Security fundamentals: auth, RBAC, secrets, and OWASP concerns.
• Solid testing practices and observability (logs/metrics/traces).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs (REST/GraphQL).
• Model data and write efficient queries for PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and secure session management.
• Build integrations with third-party services and webhooks.
• Own performance, caching strategies, and query optimization.
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews.
• Ship via CI/CD pipelines and monitor services with logs/metrics/traces.
• Collaborate with frontend, data, and product teams on interfaces and SLAs.
• Contribute to technical documentation and runbooks.
