PLOS, a leading open-access publisher, seeks an Associate Editorial Director for a 2‑year FTC to oversee a subset of journals including PLOS Biology and PLOS Medicine. The role is fully remote with eligibility from multiple US states, reporting to the Editorial leadership to advance open science and journal strategy.

Ideal candidates bring a PhD, 5+ years in STM publishing and a strong record of cross‑border team management, with a focus on equity and quality in scholarly publishing.

Qualifications

• PhD and post‑doctoral experience in a relevant subject area.
• 5+ years of editorial experience with increasing managerial responsibility.
• Experience managing journals and teams distributed internationally.
• Proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in science.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop editorial strategy for a portfolio of journals.
• Oversee editorial workflows, systems and reporting.
• Collaborate with Marketing to promote journal content.
• Lead cross‑journal initiatives and policy development.
• Support DEI initiatives across journals.
• Manage a team of up to 4 editors‑in‑chief.
