Job summary

American Physical Society is hiring an Associate Editor for PRE. You would handle all phases of peer review and decide which papers to publish. The role supports a remote-first model with global engagement and a strong emphasis on integrity and editorial excellence.

Ideal candidates have a PhD in relevant physics areas, a year of postdoctoral experience, and excellent English communication. APS offers comprehensive benefits and a dynamic research environment.

Qualifications

• A PhD and postdoctoral experience in one or more of these areas: statistical physics, nonlinear physics, complex systems, biological physics, soft matter, fluids, plasma physics, computational physics.
• Minimum of one year of postdoctoral experience.
• Excellent knowledge of the science and literature in their field.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of peer review for a suite of manuscripts, including selecting referees and evaluating responses.
• Maintain contact with PRE editors and editors of APS journals.
• Summarize and highlight papers to feature.
• Stay current with physics research and communicate with editors across the portfolio.
• Support post-acceptance processes and resolve production issues.
• Ensure editorial quality and timely publication.
• Uphold high ethical standards and fairness at all editorial stages.
• Develop mastery of the peer-review management system.
• Represent the journals at conferences and build relationships with researchers.
• Contribute to journal projects and strategy, including outreach and data analytics.
• Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in journals.
