Job summary

GEICO is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits in New York courts, with the position covering venues in Manhattan, Staten Island and Bronx. The role is remote with a base annual salary range of $118,900 to $186,550 and requires admission to the New York Bar and a Juris Doctor degree.

The candidate will research laws, prepare briefs, render liability assessments, and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, to support GEICO’s claims department and litigation

Qualifications

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in related field in litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury
• Juris Doctor degree required
• Admission to the New York Bar required
• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet CLE requirements
• Must be able to travel as required to attend trials, hearings, depositions, meetings and conferences
• Strong organization and multitasking skills; ability to document files clearly in writing

Responsibilities

• Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
• Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
• Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations under oath, and defending by trial or dispositive hearing
