Job summary

GEICO is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits in New York courts with GEICO Staff Counsel covering Manhattan, Staten Island and Bronx venues. The position is remote with some in-person travel as needed, and requires admission to the New York Bar and a NY license in good standing.

A JD and litigation experience in insurance defense or personal injury are essential. Responsibilities include researching laws, preparing briefs and memos, and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery

Qualifications

2 to 6+ years of experience in litigation in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
Juris Doctor degree is REQUIRED.
Admission to the New York Bar is REQUIRED.
Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet CLE requirements.
Must be able to travel for trials, depositions, meetings, and conferences.
Must be able to document files clearly and professionally, understandable to customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations under oath.
Defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.
Communicate professionally in person, by phone, and in writing to clients and colleagues.
