Travis County’s Transportation and Natural Resources Department seeks an authentic, dynamic leader to serve as Assistant Director of Public Works (Capital Improvement Program). The role directs design, construction, inspection, and project management of programs over $100M annually, supervising Sr.

Engineers and a PM consultant, and coordinating with multiple agencies. The ideal candidate will be proactive, able to drive change, and people-centric, with a track record in governmental public

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 7+ years of senior management experience; 4 years in mid- to senior-level supervisory/management or project management.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas or must obtain reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
• Strong leadership, budgetary, scheduling, and contract management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Direct, execute and manage the TNR Capital Improvement Program for multiple projects totaling over $100M each year.
• Plan, organize, review and evaluate activities of the program group and associated firms.
• Communicate with departments and agencies; manage resources to meet schedule and budget.
• Supervise staff, set performance expectations, evaluate results, and implement improvements.
• Monitor project progress, prepare status reports, and ensure alignment with County priorities.
