Job summary

ghSMART, a premier leadership advisory firm in the United States, seeks an Assistant Controller to join a remote finance team. You will support the Controller and CFO in maintaining accurate reporting, robust controls, and scalable processes to sustain growth.

This hands-on role partners with leadership, auditors, and cross-functional teams across the firm. You will drive month-, quarter-, and year-end closes, improve reporting quality, and coach accounting staff to reinforce operating

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting; active U.S. CPA license required.
• 6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within professional services, consulting, advisory, or other complex environments.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and close management; experience supporting audits in an audit-ready environment.
• Demonstrated ability to strengthen internal controls and improve processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close with journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Deliver high-quality management reporting with variance analysis and trend insights.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, documentation, and remediation of control gaps.
• Coordinate with external auditors and internal partners for audits and compliance.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate accounting workflows.
• Translate accounting matters into clear business language and partner with stakeholders.
