Wave is seeking an Applied AI Scientist to advance our Support Automation product, empowering millions of users across West Africa. You will bridge research and production, build robust agent systems, and tackle edge cases like poor connectivity and low literacy while collaborating with product and engineering to ship real customer impact.

This is a fully remote role with annual travel to operating markets.

Qualifications

5+ years of AI/ML experience.
Hands-on experience with LLMs or AI systems (evaluation, RAG, embeddings, safety).
Strong foundations in statistics and ML theory.
Proficient in Python.
Experience taking AI/ML systems from prototype to production.
Experience with AI agents / production deployments.
Bonus: Speech/LLM research background and Voice AI experience.
Familiarity with low-resource language challenges.
Experience in high-risk agent environments like finance.
Fluent in English; French is a plus.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end AI/ML features for Support Automation.
Evaluate and improve automated support quality.
Bridge research and production for agent systems.
Contribute to autonomous voice and text agents serving millions of interactions.
Handle hard edge cases: poor connectivity, low literacy, language data gaps.
Experiment with latest voice and text models; production integration.
Collaborate with product and engineering to ship real user impact.
