Job summary

Sterling Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Applications Engineer to develop custom automation and machine design solutions for a growing manufacturing organization. The role blends engineering, problem solving, cost estimation, and customer interaction from concept through build.

You will collaborate with sales, review drawings, assess feasibility and risk, analyze manufacturing processes, and support estimating, sourcing, and vendor quotes. Remote work is supported for a 6+ month contract.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering required; bachelor’s preferred.
• Knowledge of machine design and assembly automation.
• Familiarity with robotics and automated manufacturing.
• Experience with 2D/3D CAD software, SolidWorks preferred.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Partner with sales to develop technical solutions based on customer requirements.
• Review engineering drawings, technical documents, and project scopes.
• Evaluate concepts for technical feasibility, cost, and potential risks.
• Analyze manual, automated, and robotic manufacturing processes.
• Support project estimating, component sourcing, and vendor quoting.
• Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and technical reviews.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations throughout the design and build process.
• Maintain project documentation, cost databases, and CRM records.
