Job summary

Mercor connects elite creative and technical talent with leading AI research labs. As an Analytical Chemist contractor, you will craft challenging prompts in Chemistry and Chemical Safety, and assess model responses with a policy-based standard.

You will write reference answers with technical reasoning and differentiate questions to prevent misuse. You will work remotely as an hourly contractor, paid weekly via Stripe Connect, with independent and asynchronous collaboration to improve AI model

Qualifications

• Experience in detection and identification of hazardous compounds using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, IR and NMR.
• Method development and validation for trace-level analysis.
• Background in environmental, occupational, or emergency-response sampling and analysis.
• Experience with reference standards, spectral libraries, and unknown identification.
• Laboratory accreditation, QA/QC, and proficiency testing.

Responsibilities

• Write challenging single-turn prompts in Chemistry and Chemical Safety, labeled as benign, dual-use, and adversarial.
• Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard to ensure correct handling.
• Write reference answers with technical reasoning for correct responses.
• Differentiate routine professional questions from those fishing for misuse.
• Collaborate with practitioners to draw reliable lines in dual-use scenarios.
• Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines while improving AI model performance.
