Job summary

State of Minnesota is seeking a senior manager to lead the American Indian Child Wellbeing Unit within the DCYF. The role oversees strategy, staffing, and compliance with ICWA and related laws, partnering with tribes and counties to deliver culturally informed child welfare services.

The position requires 5+ years of state child welfare leadership, strong policy and budget experience, and the ability to work with tribal governments to improve outcomes for AI families.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for the overall American Indian Child Welfare (AICW) unit to ensure the program is fully staffed with a supervisor and staff capable of carrying out the strategic direction of the unit in keeping with the established goals of the department and tribal leadership.
• Ensure routine engagement, guidance and collaboration across the division, county, tribal, private agency, state partners, and other child welfare stakeholders in strategic planning, development and delivery of child welfare services for American Indian children and families.
• Provide ongoing leadership to the unit supervisor and staff to meet unit objectives related to ICWA, MIFPA, BIA, and TSA, including hiring, promotion, performance evaluation, labor contracts, and workforce planning.
• Oversee the American Indian Child Welfare Initiative Program (AICWI) administration to support implementation and development of services to Native American families.
