CARMA/SEE seeks a researcher to lead study on offense-defense dynamics in AI technologies, developing quantitative and qualitative frameworks to assess societal risks and benefits. The role focuses on translating findings into actionable guidance for policymakers, AI developers, and standards bodies while engaging the public through strategic communications.

The position is 100% remote with occasional travel, contributing to global efforts to understand and govern advanced AI systems responsibly.

Qualifications

• M.Sc. or higher in a relevant field as specified.
• Experience with complex systems modeling, risk assessment, or security analysis.
• Strong understanding of dual-use technologies and AI governance.

Responsibilities

• Develop quantitative system dynamics models of AI risk landscapes.
• Create analytical models and simulations to identify policy leverage points.
• Expand offense/defense dynamics taxonomy and develop predictive metrics.
• Build empirically-informed frameworks using documented AI misuse and beneficial uses.
• Analyze how technical characteristics interact with sociotechnical contexts.
