Job summary

Commence is hiring an AI/ML Engineer to build, train, and productionize ML models powering clinical and operational data products. You’ll handle data ingestion, feature engineering, and model evaluation while integrating AI/LLM-driven workflows across healthcare datasets (EHRs, claims, FHIR).

The role emphasizes collaboration with data and software engineers, adherence to HIPAA and FedRAMP-style controls, and deployment via APIs, batch, and streaming pipelines, with a strong focus on reliability

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in machine learning engineering, data science, or software engineering.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with production-grade experience.
• Experience with ML libraries such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Experience deploying ML models to production environments with senior support as needed.
• Familiarity with AI/LLM platforms like AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, LangChain, or Databricks Agent frameworks.
• Exposure to distributed processing frameworks (PySpark, Databricks, AWS EMR).
• Experience with ML lifecycle tools (MLflow, model registries, monitoring).
• Experience building APIs/services (FastAPI, Flask) for model inference.
• Solid software engineering principles in ML workflows.
• Experience with healthcare datasets (EHRs, claims, FHIR, HL7).
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Build, train, and validate ML models, including data ingestion, feature engineering, and evaluation.
• Productionize ML and AI models into APIs, batch, and streaming workflows under guidance.
• Develop AI/LLM-driven workflows for document extraction, classification, and summarization.
• Assist in implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation components and vector retrieval.
• Apply MLOps practices: CI/CD, model versioning, retraining workflows.
• Work with Databricks and AWS to support training and inference tasks.
• Monitor model performance and troubleshoot architecture-level issues.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers/Scientists and Software Engineers on components of AI systems.
• Ensure HIPAA and other regulatory compliance in ML work.
• Document development, testing, and validation for reproducibility.
