Job summary

Savant Bio, Inc. is seeking an AI Engineer to improve the quality and efficiency of its clinical data platform. The role involves moving fluidly between software engineering, data science, experimentation, and production operations to enhance pipeline performance and outputs.

You will work on prompting strategies, data retrieval and assembly, workflow decomposition, validation, and repair, with a focus on measurably better AI systems. Remote-eligible with preference for NYC presence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in applied machine learning, AI engineering, data science, or adjacent software engineering roles.
• Excellent Python and SQL skills.
• Hands-on experience building production applications with LLMs.
• Experience designing experiments and interpreting noisy, multidimensional results.
• Familiarity with LLM evaluation, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, or MLOps.
• Strong software‑engineering fundamentals and the ability to ship reliable production code.
• Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and taste.

Responsibilities

• Establish software paradigms for LLM interactions across token-parsimonious and token-hungry scenarios.
• Build test benches to measure cost and performance of open- and closed-weight LLMs against core workloads.
• Collaborate with clinical experts to encode domain knowledge and define quality standards.
• Create evaluation suites measuring accuracy, completeness, latency, and cost.
• Design controlled experiments to isolate platform-level changes.
• Improve model interactions via prompting, structured outputs, and tool use.
• Develop datasets and internal tools for evaluation, regression testing, and rapid iteration.
